Blog Week 2 ( Ilima Intermediate ) [ + Q&A Along with response with new Principal, Mr. Greenland ]
This week has been the 2nd week of Ilima, in which there have been a lot of improvements, and a lot of random changes. We apparently got news such as a new principal, and just new strict rules provided by different teachers exclusively, etc. But mainly in leadership, what happened was our Bio Cube. Bio Cubes are essentially just a 5x5 cardboard cube that has a fact about yourself on one of the 6 sides. For example, one side is your name and some pictures of yourself, and another can be, well, perhaps your personality, your favorite places and things, etc. So far this week, we only were able to present 2 sides, our name along with pictures, and our personality. A lot of the other leadership students did a really good job presenting their cubes. And in my personal opinion, I think I did well. Besides a few falters at the start, so far, I had a lot more emotion and some entertainment into my presentation that made others giggle or snicker. At the end, it was pretty simple and easy despite my natural thoughts of it not going my way well. But it went pretty well for now.
Some lowlights might be that I didn't do it perfectly as expected. I did stutter once and faltered a bit with the speech a little. But besides that, it was okay. Another lowlight may have just been me fidgeting the box a little, I can't clearly remember what happened. But I assume I fidgeted the box a little, like how I did last time. And didn't rally hold my arms stationary for everybody to read the box normally. However, some highlights are that nothing majorly bad had really happened. Everything went super well, and my grade for that assignment was all A's. It was all a perfect score, and nothing necessarily happened that affected me, or my grade in a bad way. Another highlight was that, when I did it, I somehow felt a little more confident. I'm not exactly sure why or how it works. But when I went in front of the class to present at the start, I felt a little nervous. But completing it made me realize that it wasn't so bad. It kind of made me feel little better about presenting and speaking for the ACTUAL presentation with the Bio Cube.
The making of the BIO Cube
I'm not exactly sure what the moral dilemma is, but I expect is that first impressions won't be the best. It's normal to expect a bad first impression, especially with something you're not used to, or something that's a little more unique than you're used to. Like moving schools, but that's normal, it's okay. It's alright, and eventually, as you progress, it gets better.
Interview With Mr. Greenland
Q.1: " Is This your first time as a school principal, if so, what do you expect your job to be like and what will you to do to make this school a better place. If not, what past schools have you worked at, & what do you wish you can accomplish at this school specifically. How will you do it? "
A: I've worked at multiple different schools, Campbell (High School), Kamiloa (Elementary) and now Ilima (Middle School.) The main thing he wants to accomplish at this school, is provide a good change for current, and future Ilima Intermediate Students. Our main goal is to apply a good change to the school and be able to get suggestions from the students of Ilima and apply those ideas into reality. Our main objective is to make a better campus and be able to make a safe and enjoyable experience for students. In which people want to come, or at the least, are okay with coming and enjoying the school.
R: Mainly I see how Mr. Green's response in what he wants to apply to this school in change, as more of a good thing. Most principals will probably introduce small steps one by one in a long period of time, some that are unenjoyable, and only for what the school wants. Instead, he wants to make something that not only benefits the school, and education. But also, the students. Change is insanely difficult, especially in a randomly rapid and fast moment. Perhaps you get some bad news, or something that completely shatters your world. Change is harsh, and Mr. Green understands that. However, change will mostly be bad, but no matter what, it's always for the benefit of ourselves. Change only happens for the best of us, at first it may not be the best. But as you progress and adapt forward with that change, you see how it constructs and makes a better person. Perhaps Mr. Green constructs a new rule nobody is happy with at first, but once you progress, you understand why. Perhaps the rule is no lollipops, nobody is going to be happy at first. But as they progress, they understand, perhaps it's a choking hazard and it's only for the student's safety. Change is difficult, but it's also a beneficial response Aswell. Mr. Green has experienced it, he's been in different schools with different grades, yet what he does, he goes with it. And he realizes that it's okay. He even stated at first, he wasn't prepared from going from High School to elementary school. However, as he adapted, he realized he liked it, and the change only allowed him to grow into a better person. He understands change is harsh at first, but progressively, it always gets better, and it'll make you a better person. With new thoughts, skills, and knowledge on certain things.
Q.2: "What is your biggest concern of the school? How will you plan to fix it? Ex: student behavior, safety regulations, etc. "
A: My biggest concern is the students, their safety, and what they want/expect from the school. I believe a safe campus allows a better experience to learn, and a better experience in school, allows them to enjoy it. School is a place to enjoy, and to cherish and have fun at certain moments. Paperwork isn't everything about school. It's also a place that provides knowledge, and a great education experience. I want to provide a change to make the school better, and to allow students to have a better understanding of what they deserve and need. If I have to punish them from something, they should expect this to happen, learn from it, and adapt to a better attitude.
R: Seeing that Mr. Greens main response being that he cares for the students. Makes me really understand and appreciate him a lot as a student of Ilima. It shows he cares a lot for his students, he gives them a voice, and he provides what's best for not only the school, but the people who attend it as well. He wants everyone to actually enjoy arriving to school, or at least be excited for a certain period. I've experienced multiple classes or assignments I found boring or repetitive. It sometimes made me actually despise coming to school when that period was going it happen that day. But seeing Mr. green wants to change that though for the better, makes me actually appreciate him a lot.
Mr. Green in my first impressions is that he's really good. He wants to change the school for the better, he really cares for the campus and students. And he even mows the lawn on the campus every weekend with his own lawn mower he bought with his own money. He genuinely cares for his students, and I respect the hell out of him for that.
