Week 8 Blog
Only 1 more weeks left till spring break officially starts, and now we're easing closer to the retreat. This week has been sort of hectic and tiring (for me), for one thing our period had to broadcast on tv (which wasn't that interesting), and we had our first ever family nite. What is a family nite? Well, a family nite is a gathering for a student and their family like siblings, aunties, uncles, parents/guardians, etc., come and visit what ilima has to offer or express. During family nites you can visit students' teachers and see what they do or visit the main attraction which is the cafetorium with games and booths. There are five family nites in total throughout the whole school year and they arrange in different varieties that relate to curricular means. We have 5 family nights total throughout the whole school year, this being our very first, and our next in October. Each family nite is special because it has something different to display for Ilima, the first family nite being about electives. Electives are essentially extra classes that aren't the main core ones like math or social studies, it's more extra stuff like teen health, leadership, art, P.E etc. We had multiple booths spread out throughout the cafeteria, and a leadership member stood and occupied each one, attracting other people to come to the booth and giving some sort of extra prize or activity because of it. All booths are assigned to give a stamp to a card that is given to anybody who enters the family nite, and if they collect all the stamps, they can redeem it for a reward. For example, if you were to go to say the economics class booth, they'd give you an assignment to complete for fun and a stamp if you were to complete it. I was assigned the leadership booth and our reward was taking peoples pictures and putting it on an id like a regular ilima id. This lasted for 3 whole hours, and it was very exhausting, especially in the heat. Some other things that happened today was that we heard about a field trip that was happening during AVID. He told us where we were going, and it looked genuinely interesting, and I am sort of hyped for it.
(Where we are going for the field trip)
There were probably a lot more pros than cons this week, mainly directed to the family nite. The pros may have been that it was fun to see friends that came to the family night. I was able to meet with some of their parents and although greeting each other was brief, it was nice. Another highlight may have just been that we only have 1 week left of school. I can't tell you how unimaginably tired I am, yes, I write ridiculously long stuff for no reason and that's what tires me. I can't wait for fall break just to have, well, a break. Another high may have been the AVID field trip Mr. Celebre said we were going to go to. I'm super excited for it and can't wait to see what's in store. Some lows may have been that it was so unbelievably hot that it felt like forever. I was basically in absolute despair because of how morbidly hot it was. Yes, there were some fans, but none of the air came to our station. Some windows were open, but then again, they weren't near our station. It felt like forever because of how hot and exhausting it was, on top of that we couldn't use our phones even on break.
The moral of the story may be that things aren't always this easy, I learned this from how exhausting and tiring it was working for family nite. But that's just life, just because one small thing has happened doesn't mean you should immediately give up. It just means that you need to continue succeeding and doing your best to make sure you can adapt to it and make the best out of it.
